Cuhk has introduced this new surgery at prince of wales hospital for the management of morbid obesity . five patients whose mean body weight is 138kg and mean bmi 50 have undergone the surgery 迄今，中文大学外科学系已为五名病态肥胖病人进行可调节式束胃带腹腔镜手术，他们的平均体重为138公斤，平均身体体积指数为50 。

" morbid obesity " is referring to patients with body weight doubling the ideal body weight or bmi exceeding 40 . the life expectancy of these patients will be severely affected by their obese - related diseases and their mortality rate is twice that of the healthy people 如果体重超过理想体重一倍或身体体积指数大于40 ，达到所谓病态肥胖（ morbidobesity ）时，更会因上述疾病而影响到肥胖者的寿命，其死亡率为正常人两倍以上。
