Research by the faculty of medicine of the chinese university of hong kong found that diabetes in chinese is different from that of caucasian and affects many young people . many patients with young onset diabetes have a family history ( affecting siblings or parents ) and shows no other predictive factors such as obesity and aging 香港中文大学医学院的糖尿病研究发现，华人的糖尿病与外国人的不同，影响很多年纪较轻的人，而大部分患有早发性糖尿病的病人，其家族成员都同样患有糖尿病，本身并没有常见的指标因素如肥胖及年老。
