Tsukahara Bokuden was the classic knight-errant; a rich nobleman, he travelled the Japanese countryside, often with a full entourage. Tsukahara Bokuden est l’archétype du « chevalier errant » car il est né noble et riche mais a parcouru le Japon, souvent avec des compagnons.

His doctoral thesis was later published as "William Marshal: Knight-Errant, Baron, and Regent of England", and was supervised by Professor Sydney K. Mitchell at Yale University. Celebrating the 400th anniversary of Cervantes’ death, each artist has created large etchings on the theme of the Knight-errant which were showed at the Cervantes institute in Beijing at the end of their stay. A l’occasion du 400ème anniversaire de la mort de Cervantes, chaque artiste a réalisé de grandes gravures sur le thème du chevalier errant exposées ensuite à centre culturel de Pékin à l’issue du séjour.
