This thesis, and the implications that it originates, has been greatly reinforced in 2016 with the publication of the original reconstruction of kinematic synchronism according to it in the so-called Canonical version. Cette thèse, et les implications qu'elle produit, a été considérablement renforcée en 2016 avec la publication de la reconstruction du synchronisme cinématographique originale d'accord avec elle, dans la version dite canonique.

Using the references to king Gajabahu I in the Mahawamsa and the Uraiperu katturai of the Tamil epic Cilappatikaram, historians have arrived at a literary chronological device referred to as the Gajabahu synchronism to date the events mentioned in the Tamil epic to the 2nd century CE. En se servant des références au roi Gajabahu I dans le Mahawamsa, et de l’Uraiperu katturai de l'épopée tamoule Cilappatikaram, les historiens sont parvenus à un système littéraire chronologique auquel on se réfère sous le nom de synchronisme Gajabahu pour dater les évènements mentionnés dans l'épopée tamoule jusqu'au IIe siècle.
